With Conscious Sedation Dentistry, You Know What Happened!
The technique of conscious sedation is employed to enable co-ordination in patients. Normally, when a patient is administered anesthesia, it completely silences the patient's body functioning. The patient is removed from the world of consciousness and is unconscious throughout the treatment. On the other hand, in conscious sedation, the airway of the patient is maintained and he is completely aware of his surroundings.

Conscious sedation, also known as Relaxation deals with how a patient responds throughout the treatment and how sedation soothes his anxiety. This requires extreme professionalism on the part of the dentist or the orthodontist while he or she is performing the cosmetic ortodoncia.  There are 14 different ways of performing the conscious sedation. Of these, the three primary ways to conduct it are:

* The deep conscious sedation, which is performed by the Oral surgeons specializing cavity treatment. The drug is injected directly into the blood stream and can be redone if the patient is not completely unconscious. The drugs used are pretty advanced and do not affect the health of the patient.

* The Enteral system of conscious sedation. This is done by means of mouth, that is to say orally. The patient falls asleep quite frequently, but is able to respond to the mandibular positions and differences. But the drawback is that results might differ from patient to patient.

* To ask the patient to inhale gases like Nitrous Oxide/ Oxygen Sedation, better known as "laughing gas" is also a method of sedation. This is the most popular technique adopted in the conscious sedation. Although the patient faces some degree of amnesia, and falls asleep, this method is absolutely safe and guarantees the same result for all patients.
