Is Removal Of Wisdom Teeth Essential? |
Wisdom teeth appear between the ages of sixteen to twenty four. These teeth are also known as third molars. The dentist advises patient to extract them in case these teeth affect other teeth. The number of wisdom teeth is generally expected to be four. It is possible to have more or fewer wisdom teeth.
Although people generally do not feel uncomfortable with wisdom teeth, it is a good option to extract them anyway in order to avoid future dental problems. You will not get to know that you have wisdom teeth unless you visit a dentist.
Wisdom teeth create problems when they grow partially or sideways. This condition is known as impaction. Sometimes impaction is not painful. It however depends on the location of the wisdom teeth. For example, if you have sideways growing teeth, it can cause a problem to other permanent molars with a little amount of pain.
They can also cause infection if they touch the opposite gum after extending at their peak length. This creates problem while brushing the teeth. Hence, mostly dentists advise you to extract the wisdom teeth immediately before they create any major complications.
The late teens or early twenties are considered the best age period for removing the wisdom teeth. Once they get old, it becomes difficult to extract them properly. As it is believed that with the passing time, they harden and become stronger. Therefore, there will be a chance to develop unexpected dental problems if you do not have them extracted in time.
In terms of other dental problems, they can cause permanent nerve damage and complications during the treatment process which is also known as dry socket. Dry socket is the condition which comes into existence due to formation of blood clot while having a first step of teeth treatment. This can cause a lot of pain that can affect your entire face.
In comparison of pulling a simple tooth, removing of wisdom tooth is little bit difficult because of impaction. With the help of general anesthesia, this process is completed. During this process, tooth is extracted from the mouth in sections by opening the gum in a right manner. Sometimes dentists advise you to remove your bone also after assessing the stage of your tooth problem.
Recovery time can vary from several days to week, which generally depends on the complications or your age at the time of extracting. The dentist may recommend painkillers to treat the pain.
At that time, you can also face major facial swelling that can create problems in eating or speaking. To avoid these complications, dentists advise you to have a liquid diet for a period of seven days or so.
The best idea would be to get an X-ray of your oral cavity. This will confirm the presence of wisdom teeth and help the dentist to determine if the teeth are likely to create a problem and need to be extracted. The dentist is after all the best person to consult in case you have doubts about wisdom teeth or any other dental problem. |
