Delta Dental Plans Association is among the largest of dental insurance companies. The company has an estimated total of more than 47 million customers. A majority of these customers is above the 81000 p.a. income group. The customers include employer based plan communities, retired and senior citizens. Even veterans are a part of the group. The company has on its panels a network of around 118,000 dental health care practitioners who operate all over the United States and in Puerto Rico.
The company has made very fast progress in a very short span of time. It was not a long time back that dental insurance was not very popular in the overall health insurance sector. The companies had to offer various discounts in order to make inroads in the area of dental insurance.
After a number of studies, it was found that the cost of dental treatment in United States is almost as expensive as that of any other medical procedure. The dentists saw great benefits for themselves in this. They did not join any of the dental care insurance networks considering that the people who are already getting treatment from them would continue to do so.
The procedure led to a vicious circle. Fewer dentists enrolled with the companies meant that people were not attracted to the plan. The lack of people in these plans further meant that a lesser number of dentists joined the plan. Even the employers who provide group health insurance services were not very enthusiastic about the plans.
Delta was among the first companies to break out of this vicious circle. It was able to nurture the market and develop the nascent market segment. Hence it was able to grab a gigantic market share. The company launched attractive plans.
The company has faced isolated incidents of lack of timely payments as well as some issues relating to the accuracy of the documentation on the company's part. Similarly there have been isolated incidents where people have been unable to access the live customer care service.
In one case, the problem was more on the provider's part and not on the Delta's side. This problem amazingly was because of the lack of providers in a certain area. Delta could not have been blamed for the situation. The company can not convert every other person into a provider agency. The problem would only be solved gradually as awareness about dental insurance grew and more and more people started seeking dental insurance.
There were some very rare instances when people were not able to understand the details of a plan. This might have been because of the overly complicated legal and financial regulatory requirements. The fact is that the company has always focused on keeping its plans simple and flexible so that it can fulfill every person’s requirements.
All in all if we compare the number of complaints against Delta, with the number of satisfied clients, the latter group of people is much larger than the former group. Delta’s track record has been satisfactory.
