A Guide To Preventing Tooth Erosion
The teeth are an important aspect of one's complete outlook. It is important that proper care is taken of the teeth lest they erode and fall. Today, when people are not really concerned about what they are eating and drinking, the fact that improper eating and lack of oral hygiene leads to significant problems, becomes all the more important. The Academy of General Dentistry regularly comes up with oral health care advisories which provide details about  proper care of teeth. Below are some key points covered in the latest advisory which are regularly reiterated.

* Always brush your tooth regularly. To get the best results you should use a fluoridated toothpaste. Moreover, choosing the right toothbrush is of extreme importance. You must have a flexible brush with soft bristles.
* Make sure that after every single time you eat something, you clean your mouth with a mouth wash. Rinsing will do the trick in most cases but if you ate something with acidic content or with high sugar content, it is advised that you wait for an hour and then brush your teeth to ensure proper cleaning.
* If you are too much into drinking carbonated drinks, you must get rid of the habit. These drinks are the worst enemy of your teeth when it comes to liquid edibles. The fizz as well as their flavor wreak havoc in your mouth. You should consider taking plain water, milk or any fruit juice instead.
* If you have to drink something that has been artificially sweetened, or if you absolutely have to take carbonated drinks, it is a must that you take them using a straw. A straw will reduce the contact between your teeth and these drinks thus ensuring minimal damage.
* Any liquid with acidic content is trouble for your teeth. If you have to drink any kind of acidic drink, you should not indulge in tasting the thing too much. Take a medium gulp and swallow it as fast as possible. Make sure that you do not choke in the process but also be prompt to ensure that your teeth come in contact with this acidic content for the least possible time.
* Dry mouth is another cause of tooth erosion. It can be prevented if you always have a decent amount of saliva in your mouth. The saliva helps remineralize your teeth, ensuring longer lifetime for them. To ensure proper saliva levels in your mouth, you should consider chewing a gum that is sugar free.
* Finally, make sure that you floss your teeth regularly.

Above all, you should visit the dentist regularly, preferably once every three months, for checkup and early identification of tooth erosion.
