Now that you are about to be a parent you will definitely be preparing for looking after the baby. You may have heard of problems such as teething that is a normal part of the growing up of a baby. Here we take another look at the symptoms of teething and the various things that you should know.
1. Biting When your baby is going through teething, she is likely to bite, chew or gnaw on things. This is a natural response to teething and to ease the pain that is caused by the teeth coming out.
2. Discomfort & Fussiness The baby is going to be uncomfortable and cry for no apparent reason. The discomfort experienced by the baby is similar to the discomfort experienced during colic. This is simply because the teeth are emerging from the gums and it is a traumatic experience for the baby.
3. Drooling Drooling is one symptom that every baby will go through when she is teething. This is again natural and is a common symptom of teething.
4. Fever At certain times of the teething phase, a baby may develop a very low fever. This can be reduced by taking a mild antipyretic. However if the fever persists for more than 48 hours’, you should consult a pediatrician.
5. Sleeping Difficulty Babies often experience discomfort to such a level that they cannot sleep properly. Your baby may fall asleep and then get up in the middle of the night because of the pain.
Remember that these symptoms are related to a phase that your baby is going through. It can be a very traumatic experience for the baby. You as a parent will definitely be doing all that you can t help your baby through this difficult period.
