When we speak about bad breath caused by tooth decay, well we are speaking about bad breath caused by tooth decay! You may ask why I am making such a rhetorical statement. Simply because bad breath or halitosis may be caused by reasons other than tooth decay or problems with the gums. The other reasons are however insignificant. The major reason for bad breath is due to a bad state of oral hygiene and health.
The solution lies in taking care of oral health. Broken down this simply means that we should take care of our teeth, gums and tongue as these are the places where the bacteria that causes bad breath usually grows. Bad breath by itself is not a disease. It is a symptom of disease or a problem. The problem may be associated with tooth decay, gum disease or germs in the inner cavities and tongue.
Taking good care of our teeth is again very simple. We need to brush our teeth twice a day and floss at least three times a week. Brushing and flossing helps to remove food particles that can decompose into tartar a substance that is responsible for tooth decay. Not following an effective routine for oral hygiene can result in our mouth becoming a breeding ground for all types of bacteria.
Bad breath is also caused by a lack of moisture in the oral cavity. Ask your spouse about your breath in the morning. Chances are that it will be unpleasant. In the morning, our mouth tends to be dry. As a result, the breath usually smells bad. Once we brush our teeth and hydrate our mouth, the bad breath usually goes away.
Besides brushing and flossing, we should also clean our tongues with the bristles of our toothbrush or use a tongue cleaner. This helps to remove any residue on our tongues that may be causing bad breath.
Taking good care of our teeth helps to eliminate many problems. Bad breath is undoubtedly troublesome. It is unpleasant for other people. However, lack of adequate dental care result in other problems besides bad breath that are going to be unpleasant for you.
