Evaluate Your Dental Insurance- Know Pros and Cons
There may be thousands of dental insurance policies available, but each of them may not be the best option. If you want to make a smart choice and pick the best dental insurance for yourself, then its time to evaluate the pros and cons of your dental insurance. Here are some factors that you must consider before giving any insurance policy a go.

Choose your dentist
Most dental insurance specify the list of dentists whose services you can seek under the insurance. At times, it may happen that your favorite dentist may not fall into the ones as listed by your insurance provider. It is not advisable to go in for a dental insurance policy, just because it is cheap if it does not include your favorite dentist. Go in for a dental insurance policy that includes your favorite dentist, even if it means paying a little extra.

Choice of treatment

Before you take the plunge and opt for a particular dental insurance plan, it is important to ensure the list of treatments covered under the same. You may realize that your insurance plan pays for only the cheapest treatment once you have opted for it. Thus it is always better to make a wise decision in advance so that you can choose the best treatment for yourself.

Plan cover
If you are going for a decent dental insurance plan, you should ideally get two cleanings free of any charges under the same. There are some dental insurance plans that even cover X-rays and fluoride treatments without asking you to pay out of your pocket.

The ratio in which costs are shared for other services can vary from one insurance provider to the other. The sharing ratio also depends upon the maximum payout as offered in the insurance plan. However you can still go in for a decent dental insurance plan even if it does not offer all the above.

Appointment scheduling
Some dentists restrict the scheduling of dental insurance participants. If you head to a particular dentist under a dental insurance cover, your appointments may be restricted to some particular timings or days. So before zeroing in on a dental insurance plan, make sure that there are no such restrictions. The timings as suggested by the doctor may be a little inconvenient to you.

Payment
This is the most important thing that you need to check for before giving a nod to any dental insurance plan. Check what all you would have to pay for under the insurance cover and whether the insurance plan is actually worth it. Usually all dental insurance plans stands at least worth of the premiums paid by you. However, the one paid by your employer is the best.

Make sure you give each of the above mentioned factors a thought before you finally take a decision.
