Treating Dental Pain With Pain Relievers
Whether it is tooth decay or a cavity, dental pain is inevitable. Though there are several options to treat dental pain, it is pain relievers that are most commonly used. Pain relievers ease the pain in teeth, gums and adjoining areas and provide relief.

Causes of dental pain
Dental pain or pain in the teeth, gums or adjoining areas is primarily caused as a result of inflammation of nerves and blood vessels that surround the teeth. Many a times, dental pain may also be caused as a result of tooth decay.

Using pain relievers to treat dental pain
Pain relievers are the most commonly used method to combat dental pain. Though there are different kinds of pain relievers, it is primarily anti inflammatory drugs and analgesics that are used to treat dental pain. Both of them are different categories of medicines and work in different ways to ease dental pain.

Analgesics for dental pain
In simple words, analgesics can be described as pain relieving substance. Though these analgesics do not treat the root cause of the problem, they help relieve the pain. Analgesics provide temporary relief from the pain. They are typically used prior or after any dental treatment to ease the pain and discomfort.

Acetaminophen, also known as Paracetamol or Tylenol, Codeine, and Aspirin are some of the popularly used analgesics to treat dental pain. Amidst all the above mentioned medicines, it is Acetaminophen that finds maximum usage. The reason for the same being that this medication does not cause any side effects. It does not have blood thinning effects and does not cause any gastric irritation.

Codeine is another highly effective analgesic. Due to its pain fighting abilities, this medication is used to treat severe dental pain. Sometimes, codeine is used along with other analgesics to increase their effectiveness and provide instant pain relief.

Anti inflammatory drugs for dental pain
It is a known fact that severe tooth pain is caused as a result of the inflammation of nerves. Anti inflammatory drugs combat this inflammation and help ease dental pain. Several dentists use anti inflammatory drugs prior to any kind of dental treatment.

Some of the commonly used anti inflammatory drugs include aspirin and ibuprofen. Aspirin has excellent anti inflammatory properties and soothes dental pain. It is also used to treat several kind of fevers and pain. However, there are certain side effects of aspirin. It can cause stomach irritation.

Ibuprofen too works well as an anti inflammatory drug. Unlike aspirin, ibuprofen can be used for all age groups. There are no adverse gastric effects of using this medicine.

Safety status of pain relievers
Most pain relievers come with some or the other side effect like blood thinning, gastric trouble and the like. But, these side effects are negligible and go away in sometime. Pain relievers are available without prescription. However, it is better to have the approval of your doctor when you use them.
