A Visit at the Dentist’s- How it is like?
Visiting a dentist is a must regardless of how much you care for your teeth. Everyone needs to visit the dentist for regular checkup and cleaning tasks. Then of course there is the odd case of emergency when nothing short of professional help would be of any use.

Regular checkup

Most of the people are afraid to visit the dentist even for common checkups. This is primarily because of the misconception that checkups are extremely painful. The fact is that in the course of a regular dental checkup, you would not have anything more than some routine work that involves examination and cleaning.

Cleaning

Your regular checkup starts with a thorough cleaning of your mouth. This is much more than the regular toothbrush and floss cleaning work which is a part of your morning and evening routine. The skill and special equipment that a dentist uses makes sure that you get much better cleaning than what you do daily. The cleaning process begins with the removal of tartar. Tartar is actually plaque which becomes hardened over time and due to over accumulation. A dentist uses a special tool called the Scalar to remove it. In some cases the dentist may use a tool that employs ultrasonic sound waves to remove tartar.

The process of tartar removal is followed by polishing the teeth using a special paste. Dentists use a rubber polisher that can rotate and thus is able to do a very good job. Moreover this cleaning exercise also makes the surface of your teeth very smooth. With smooth teeth surface, it becomes extremely difficult for bacteria and plaque to accumulate on the teeth. Dentists also undertake some extra tasks for children as their teeth are more vulnerable to problems.

Examination

After the cleanup job is done, the dentist begins with a thorough examination of your teeth and gums. During this process the dentist would check the soft tissue of your jaw and teeth assembly. This helps him make sure that there is no sign of any disease in your mouth. The dentist would also run a few X-ray tests to make sure that there is no case of any hidden decay or periodontal malady in your teeth. Any lesions or cysts in the jawbone are also revealed by this. X- ray tests are generally optional.

The teeth are an extremely important part of your body. Not only do they make it possible for you to eat, they also contribute to your looks. Moreover absolutely no one likes a person with bad breath. Tak-ing proper care of your mouth is necessary and there is no one who can do it better than a dentist. It is a must that you visit your dentist on regular basis.
