Teeth Health Tips for Kids |
As parents, we spend a lot of time trying to teach our children not to eat candy, sugar cane, chocolates and other sweet goodies. We should face the fact that kids will be kids and will be addicted to sweets. Of course we should limit the amount of sweets that they eat, but we cannot be successful in forcing them to give up their sweet tooth altogether.
We should stress on teaching our children to take care of the teeth by using a fluoride based toothpaste and making sure that they brush their teeth twice a day. Brushing teeth before bedtime is absolutely essential, as it will teach children a habit that will last a lifetime, besides making sure that they do not suffer from tooth decay and painful cavities. Let us reconcile ourselves to the fact that sweets will be a part of a child’s diet and make sure that they brush their teeth properly and in time. Children are at an impressionable age and what we teach them today, will last then for a lifetime.
The website of the American Dental Association has a number of useful games, animations and tips that we should encourage our children to go through. The website provides useful information about the damage to our teeth that is caused by not brushing our teeth regularly.
Children like flavored toothpaste and choosing flavored toothpaste is a great way to encourage them to brush their teeth regularly. Brushing of teeth before bedtime reduces tooth decay and painful cavities that can be traumatic and require visits to the dentist.
Children below the age of six require just a dab of toothpaste on their brush and a simple brushing for not more than 3 minutes will help them to keep their teeth free from plaque and tartar. Of course, we should also encourage our children to eat healthy green vegetables and to eat chewy and crunchy food. If we teach them how to eat properly and to look after their teeth, then there is nothing wrong with the occasional sweet treat. |
