Medications to Avoid For Perfect Oral Health
There are many medications which, while eradicating an underlying bodily disease, may cause an unwanted dental side-effect. Hence, it is imperative that the consumption of these medications is done under some sort of regulation.

Most Common Side-effects of Medications
The most common side-effect which medications can produce is dry mouth syndrome. In this situation, there is a sudden and rapid decrease in the amount of saliva inside your mouth. The tongue is not able to keep itself moist and the brain sounds a need for water. Apart from dry mouth syndrome individuals can also experience pain, soreness, headaches, dry lips and other similar side-effects.

Following are a few generic examples of medications which cause dental side-effects:

* Antidepressants: While not all anti-depressants are bad for oral health, there are some which can do create oral problems. These medications can cause side-effects such as tooth sensitivity, teeth grinding, dry mouth syndrome (xerostomia), involuntary tongue movement, worn and torn teeth, gum bleeding, jaw pain, headaches, or sugar cravings. Read the packaging carefully and always take them in the recommended dose.

* Antibiotics: You heard it right. These life-saving drugs can also have some side-effects on our oral health. Tooth discoloration is the most common example of side-effects caused by some antibiotics.

* Allergy Treatment Medications: There are certain allergy treatment medications which can cause dry mouth syndrome.

* Appetite Suppressants: Appetite suppressants are also known to cause dry mouth syndrome.

*Anxiety controlling medications: People tend to gobble them when feeling low. However, many of these medications bring harm instead of benefit. The most common type of oral side-effect caused by some anxiety controlling medications is dry mouth syndrome.

* Bisphosphonates: These medications are meant to control osteoporosis. However, some of them cause osteonecrosis of the jaw. This oral problem may result in the death of the jaw bone.

* Chemotherapy Medication: Chemotherapy medications are by themselves harmful. They also tend to harm oral health by causing problems such as pain in mouth, an enlarged tongue, burning mouth syndrome, sores and dry lips.

* Diuretics: Diuretics can help expel waste from our body by medically increasing the rate of urination. However, some of them can cause serious oral side-effects such as white ulceration.

* Painkillers: Yes, that is true. Painkillers too can adversely impact our oral health. Some of them can cause dry mouth symptoms. If you continue to take them even when dry mouth symptoms begin to appear, brace yourself for dry mouth syndrome.

* Sleeping Pills: Many sleeping pills can cause dry mouth syndrome.

* Smoking cessation medication: Though smoking cessation medications do not contribute to any oral side-effects some of them do increase your chances of suffering from dry mouth syndrome.
