7 out of the 10 US dentists are members of the American Dental Association. The organization was established in the year 1859.
The manner in which it encourages and participates in various welfare-oriented activities, it has the makings of a selfless, non-profit making non-governmental organization. Its contribution in the area of oral health of Americans is remarkable and its activity-related association with the public is commendable. Just take one segment of the society for example-the students. The number of activities that it conducts for the benefit of students is really praiseworthy. There is no area which is untouched by their influence.
American Dental Association actively indulges into various activities to bring in student awareness and participation for the oral health. The common activities include face to face presentations; classroom lessons; career planning advice; bulletin boards; coloring contests; dental health speakers; essay writing tasks; hands-on activities and ADA print and video resources.
It is encouraging to note that they are interested in teaching and tackling some positive aspects of oral health treatment. They are willing to discuss and guide the children by giving them right type of dental education, which may not benefit the dental surgeon.
The very purpose of forming the associations is and should be welfare of the society. And American Dental Association is actually working for the welfare of the people with all the strength and resources at its command.
